A walk in the woods with Sarah & Stuart | Stowe, VT engagement photos

“C’mon, dehg.” I hear as they make their way out across the drive, and up a hill into the forest…
From the beautiful craftsmanship and artistry that they both bring to the world in careers, to the way in which they chose to spend their free time and their days, Sarah and Stuart are one of those couples that I almost can’t believe I was lucky enough to find.
She’s a stunning little firecracker Long Island native, and he’s a Vermont-born and raised master welder, builder, woodsman, snowboarding adventurer! (needing few words to display a heart of gold:) Being given the honor of getting to know these lovebirds was an inspiration.
We walk through the woods and out into a clearing that rolls down to a fairytale worthy frozen pond. Flanked by trees so tall they’ve surely seen stories of many generations, it set the scene for Stuart’s next idea of fun: boot-skating Sarah around in Notebook-worthy fashion;)
It was both a visual and emotional oasis for me, their slice of heaven in these green mountains (which is why I spent hours upon hours hearing more about their story together in this magical place).
One of the best things I can do for my photo clients is take the time to get to know them — We love the photos with meaning, and authenticity. They resonate, and they have soul. When getting to know them also turns into seeing yourself, your own values (as well as parting phrases like “I feel like I’ve known you my whole life!”) you know something is going right. Thank you Sarah and Stuart, for putting your trust and story in my camera-laden hands! I wouldn’t be able to continue this pursuit and passion without you.
“He’s taken me with him before,” she says, speaking of his early morning turkey hunts. “It’s very dark, peaceful… you can’t see anything because it’s so dark, but that tunes you into all your other senses. It’s a wonderful experience, you wake up with nature, and the sun…”

Libby & Tony’s New England Winter Engagement Shoot

I can’t express in words the amount of excitement I had about shooting up in a snowy New England landscape earlier this month. It was an engagement session for the first couple to have booked a 2013 wedding with me! Libby and Tony are a wildly photogenic couple, but more than anything they’re just really great, down to earth and kind people. So it was wonderful to capture their spirits as we explored the grounds of St. Gauden’s. I think it’s easy to see that these two get along – and I couldn’t have had a better time shooting with them, so THANKS again you two!!

Rachel and Paul are quintessential New Yorkers with a flair for the classic, the elegant, and the charming. Whisking me away to the paths of Central Park, steps of city subway stops (where they first met!) and seats of yellow cabs, they were able to get the stunning images that I knew they’d inevitably have no matter what the scene… because if you have yet to take notice, they’re a very handsome couple.
Hold on, because the amount of photos I’m about to post rivals the number of pot holes the street must have had as I tried my all to get that perfect cab shot, perched precariously in the front seat cursing that darn plastic divide. =)
Rachel & Paul, engaged:
Paul and Rachel met on the platform of the New York City Subway at 33rd Street and Park Avenue, so that is where our photo journey began… Deciding to share a cab after hearing the announcement that all trains were delayed due to heavy rain and flooding, they made their morning commute in one another’s company and the rest is history 😉
At first I loved the following photo for Paul’s cute gaze at Rachel, but check out the HEART made with their outstretched arms and the tree branch behind them… ridiculous! I like to think that my eye subconsciously created this miracle, but I can’t actually credit anything but the higher power of love that must surround them…

Despite having an extremely busy past month, I can’t help but blog a brief post on a photo session from this past weekend! More on this duo and the goals behind this shoot to come, but I don’t think it even takes more than one photo to see the good nature of these individuals. Even with a near stranger clicking away, a yard or less from their faces, Martin and Sandra were happy, free-spirited, easygoing, and gorgeous inside and out.
I can’t tell you how much it means to me to build friendships and connections through my work. Welcomed into not only someone’s afternoon for a shoot, but also their home and heart makes what I do behind the lens that much better, more authentic, and worthwhile. Knowing oneself, and being at ease with your surroundings allows me to catch that moment that will hold the most meaning for you. I try to let this come out in people, but when it manifests itself without any effort, I am inspired. Without further ado, (did I say this was going to be brief, oops!) I present you with the range of seriousness that colored this session…

Congratulations again to Paul & Rachel who announced their engagement this past summer. We have just finalized a monogram to be used throughout their wedding materials. I was so pleasantly surprised by the response I got from this gracious bride, that I felt I should share the design and her happiness with you all. If my future clients are even half as excited about the pieces I deliver, I will be one lucky girl.
January has so far proven to be a busy and productive month – website design concepts abound, and at some point, I’d like to have some featured projects posted over at jennifermckenna.com, home of my design site (sadly, still only holding my version of an “under construction” page =).

Something about a subway stop, a cab ride, and “the rest is history”… From beginning to end, it has become a Manhattan fairy tale. And my goodness am I excited to shoot some engagement photos with them!
Paul and Rachel have a great “how we met” story, but an even greater, impossible to go unnoticed, love for one another. Not only are they beautiful people inside and out, but I’ve also had the pleasure of knowing them before they announced their engagement and I consider them dear friends.
Curious about their story? You’ll have to wait until our photos go up! We have some exciting concepts to explore…
For now, I leave you with a candid photo from this summer. HOW SWEET ARE THEY? More to come!
